Job Description

To be part of a project team responsible for delivering transmission projects to cost, exacting standards and to project timescales during the conceptual, detailed design and construction phases.  The role will require a good understanding of engineering principles and practical application of British Standard and Eurocode Design.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

  • To take responsibility for producing outline and detailed design tasks for all overhead line transmission design elements on a contract
  • Liaising with construction/site management to ensure design interpretations are correct at every stage of the project life
  • Liaise with the client/contractor on design issues
  • The control of documents and drawings in accordance with LSTC Group management procedures
  • The design of OHL routes in conjunction with the OHL Senior Design Designer
  • As part of their Graduate training programme must be willing to spend time (possibly a few months) in other offices for specialist training
  • May be required from time-to-time to undertake site visits as part of this role and this will include entry to operational substations where compliance with safety rules and procedures is mandatory.

Qualifications and experience:

 Qualifications

  • Degree qualified with at least MSc, MEng, BEng (Hons) or BSc (Hons) Degree in Civil, Structural, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.

 Experience

  • Good knowledge and evidence of keeping up-to-date with relevant industry specific legislation
  • Ability to understand and plan for conflicting requirements and meet challenging deadlines
  • Ability to interrelate own discipline areas with outputs from other engineering and none engineering disciplines to present overall suitable solutions mitigating risk in proposed solutions
  • Able to produce and approve reports and design deliverables that are compliant with standards, specifications and accurately considering all available relevant information and knowledge.

Personal Situation

  • Willing to undertake short excursions within the UK to meet clients and contractors as required and occasionally working unsocial hours
  • Willing to occasionally work at other LSTC Group or client offices
  • Ideally holding a valid UK Driving Licence (or licence acceptable to our insurers)
