Overhead Line Design Engineer

The Role:

LSTC has an exciting opportunity for an experienced OHL Design Engineer based in our Derby office working alongside an established team of Transmission Engineers.

What you’ll be doing:

Working as part of a project team, you’ll be delivering engineering solutions from feasibility to detailed engineering designs for transmission network projects (33kV and above).

You’ll be responsible for the development of preliminary and detailed design and delivery of projects by leading the technical aspects of overhead lines and all other associated equipment.

Preparation, checking and submission of Design Intent Documents, Design Criteria Reports, Design phase and OHL Analysis reports, provide necessary calculations and /or reports to justify design results.

Assessing engineering documentation, feasibility and compliance with client requirements and support the preparation of accurate budgets for new projects. Whilst ensuring overhead line designs, equipment and construction practices are in accordance with current legislation, polices and operational requirements.

Additionally, you’ll be working alongside our OHL Design, Civil, Geotechnical and Planning Engineers along with CAD and Asset Inspection Teams to develop and design solutions.

The Person:

  • Enthusiastic with a flexible approach, self-motivated and able to work well as part of a team and on own initiative.
  • Driven, flexible and adaptable with excellent organisational, IT and communication skills.
  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent) with formal engineering training.
  • Chartered or Incorporated membership of IStructE / ICE or working towards membership.
  • With at least 5 years postgraduate engineering design experience.
  • Ideally with steel mast/ tower design experience.
  • Must be highly numerate and literate.
  • Experience with design analysis packages such as PLS CADD and PLS Tower.
  • Good knowledge of relevant industry, client and national specifications and legislation.
  • Plan and engineer conflicting requirements and meet challenging deadlines.
  • Be able to interrelate own discipline areas with outputs from other engineering solutions and contribute to overall operable solutions.
  • Ability to produce and check engineering designs that are compliant with standards and specifications and accurately take into account all available relevant information and knowledge.
  • Working knowledge and experience in applying relevant Health & Safety issues as required by legislation and applicable directives.
  • Ability to provide on-site technical solutions to unforeseen engineering problems that mitigate program slippage.
  • Must have a valid UK driving licence (or one acceptable to our insurers).
  • Must be prepared to travel and work from other LSTC UK offices from time to time.
