Our Senior Staff of Chartered Civil, Structural, and Electrical Engineers include leading UK experts participating in the development of European Standards and are members of CIGRE and BSI committees.
LSTC has the professional resources to bring the most challenging assignment to a successful conclusion, but are pleased to provide the same level of commitment and expertise to even the smallest project.
LSTC is qualified to act as an independent professional authority in the verification and validation of third party designs and providing expert witness on sensitive cases.
A selection of project outputs can be viewed as examples of the type of work and standard that LSTC provide.
Concept and Detailed Design
LSTC design teams are able to deliver high quality design solutions. They are able to develop an initial concept to a final detailed design, suitable for handing over to a construction contractor.
Overhead Line Design
LSTC has many years experience in line design encompassing both conventional and digital based techniques. LSTC has substantial experience in the use of specialist profiling and line design software that is used worldwide in the overhead power line industry.
LSTC has undertaken many schemes ranging from new connections to existing overhead lines, up-rating of existing routes and new build projects using current British and European Standards.
Specialist Software Experience
LSTC is experienced in the use of the industry standard PLS range of software:
PLS Pole – wood and steel
PROKON for Structural and base designs
LSTC has used Optimal TowerCAD and PoleCAD overhead line profiling software for over 16 years and has an extensive library of databases applying deterministic and probabilistic design approaches.
LSTC has specialist expertise in the design of lattice towers, poles, gantries and substation structures, including foundations. Designs that consider technical, environmental, visual and electrical constraints to optimise structure geometry are prepared with regular customer consultation.
LSTC has a draughting team able to undertaken work ranging from a small addition or alteration to an existing structure, up to fully detailing new structures. LSTC is currently investing in the latest structural steelwork detailing software to offer an accurate and efficient service to detail complex steel structures including arrangement drawings, material schedules and fabrication details.
Planning and Pre Sanction Engineering Services
LSTC undertakes route studies for new and existing lines which include:
Route studies conceptual and detailed
Geo-environmental desk studies and site investigations
Digital terrain modelling
Aerial survey data analysis for conceptual profiling
Structure and foundation strengthening assessments
Line entries to substations and line connections to existing infrastructure
Access and logistics planning
Scheme identification and scoping
Project programming and cost assessments
Design hazard identification and mitigation
Construction methodology and risk assessment
Inspection and testing for type registration for design verification and validation
LSTC can assist in the tender process by specifying, identifying and quantifying the scope of the work and evaluating tender returns.
Planning is an integral process in identifying Overhead Line and Cable routes. LSTC engineers have undertaken new route studies for projects nationwide considering environmental, ecological, archaeological, technical, topographical, and local constraints.
Project Engineering and Construction Support Services
LSTC can draw on a wealth of site experience to provide CDM support services, particularly in the preparation of pre-construction information packs.
During a project construction phase, LSTC is able to provide the following services:
Monitoring construction activities
Liaison and Project Engineering
Audit and verification of construction works
Site inspection and testing services
Test and Inspection Support Services
Testing and inspection are important quality control processes to ensure that customer’s products comply with project specified conductors, insulator and fittings. LSTC is able to develop test and inspection plans based upon customer specified requirements.
